I have a friend that talks about passion on his blog. He talks a lot about personal passion in regard to living, working and combining them into a way of life. One that you feel truly at ease with and one that fits your goals.

What is fitness for everyday activities?
As you have aged has it become more difficult to do activities you enjoy? For myself, I love Frisbee. I used to spend hours on the beach with my friend playing, running, leaping and throwing. I can no longer, at age 54 play as long as I used to. I can play almost as hard for shorter periods though. Were I not keeping active, and trying to stay fit, I would most likely just enjoy the memories and no longer attempt to play the game anymore.

Gerry’s amazement – the wrist of the story
Keep in mind that when you teach in assisted living center you run across all sorts of personalities. Your participants are a cross section of class, religious and ethnic backgrounds and in a wide range of older ages. Mix in the fact that these folks have been around and are set in their ways, you never know what you will be told or what you will hear in conversation.
Gerry, a women in her mid 90’s is one of my favorite ladies out of the 60 or so I see on a regular basis. Outspoken, funny and full of pep, she has told me she plans on outliving her sisters age. Her sister had lived to 102 before passing a few years ago. Read the rest of this entry »
Fitness from the slow lane
My dad always used to drive two miles under the speed limit. I would get upset as a muscle car raced passed, top down the people laughing and racing on. Dad would say, they won’t get far ahead. At the next light, there they would be, right in front of us, idling. Dad was right.

Are you too old to exercise?
Absolutely not. No matter what age you are or shape you are in, there is always room to improve. Exercise, especially as we age becomes more and more important. Keeping the muscles strong, bone density up, the heart and lungs working at a high level and keeping the joints moving are crucial to a long healthy life.
So many diseases are arrested or assisted in their treatment when accompanied by an exercise routine. With the addtion of a good diet and proper nutrition the benefits of exercise are multiplied many times over.
I hear the comment, I am too old to exercise. It is too late for me to start, so I’ll just suffer with the way I am”, from far too many people. I ask why they think this is true and the normal response is that they can no longer do the things they used to. They get depressed or frustrated and just give up. Read the rest of this entry »
