I think tai chi's ability to train the brain is way more important than muscle strength, flexibility or endurance training to function and comfort-especially fall prevention.

Bad days are what you make of them. I do dislike days when I feel that "nothing got done". Most people tend to take bad days out on those that surround them (family friends, the dog) but that still doesn't make their day any better. Think of bad days as an attitude that YOU allow to make them bad. It is all about your perspective and wouldn't you rather make lemons into lemonaide?

Whatever happened to Tae Rang Chang? I used to take Tae Kwon Do classes at his place back when I was in Elementary School/Junior High, then I heard he closed his place down going back to Korea because of an ill relative. It's good to know that he seems to still be teaching!

Excellent point, Stan.

I think that the ancients used to understand a great deal about brain fitness and whole body fitness. Somewhere along the way this got buried in the scientific revolution. Good to see that it's emerging again.

Amen to all that! There are a couple other issues to consider that are connected to living space.

As we age, our eyes age too, and sometimes, lighting that worked well when we were younger doesn't work so well. You may need to improve the lighting around stairwells and in transitional areas such as doorways and on porches.

You may also need to pay some attention to level changes in flooring (get rid of them - or get a contractor to change out shallow steps for gradual ramps). If you have loose rugs, you may want to replace them with wall-to-wall carpeting or a hard surface (which is also easier to maintain and clean). Level changes and lighting - as well as the loose rugs and cords Stan mentioned - often contribute to falls on stairs.

In addition, it's well worth considering falls in the bathroom. Your tub should have a traction mat at the very least, and it's also likely that you will at some point need to install a grab bar to help with entering and exiting the tub.
