The dance of new movement – or what you don’t yet know

I find it quite interesting that a lot of the people who take my Tai Chi inspired exercise classes apologize to me when they don’t “get the movements” right off the bat.

I tell them, “don’t worry about what you don’t know or cannot do yet. It’s not wrong,  only new and un-practiced”.

For example, if you ever took ballroom dancing, I am sure the first time out the Tango, Waltz, Cha-Cha or Rumba gave you a few “fits” trying follow something brand new and outside your realm of experience.

Most people do their normal daily routines, moving about the day without really paying any mind to how they move.

Stepping into a class where mindfulness of movement is paramount is  a major change of mindset.

My classes are filled with balance work mixed with movements involving a lot of patterns and timing which does take time to learn.

The bottom line, there is no need to apologize.  There is more of a need to congratulate yourself for taking the risk to step into something new, and beneficial to your health and overall well-being.
