So what is the point of exercise…… won’t we still get old and die?

July 26, 2014

This is a short post today spurred by a few conversations I have had over the last few months.

Because of what I do..  working with seniors mainly on balance and mobility, I talk about it a lot to anyone who will listen.

Because I just turned 60, most of the folks in my peer group are in the same age range, and most are not thinking about aging, YET.

I hear a lot while talking to these peers that concentrating so much on wellness for them is a waste of time. They say, we will still get old, sick, get some sort of disease or whatever. So what is the point?

Hmm…. Don’t you agree that the point is how much better your system can fend off, recover from and potentially avoid those issues if it is kept in better working order?

Curious to hear your thoughts on the value of eating healthier, exercising more and generally taking care of our aging bodies and minds.  Please leave a comment below.

  1. I have found many similarities between studying Tai Chi and Stoic Philosophy. Currently I am reading Seneca who wrote the following: The grave and wise man should not beat a hasty retreat from life; he should make a becoming exit. For every day a little of our life is taken from us; even when we are growing, our life is on the wane. Whatever years be behind us are in death’s hands therefore hold every hour in your grasp. Lay hold of to-day’s task, and you will not need to depend so much upon to-morrow’s.
