This is where I need to be, regardless of what else is happening.

February 15, 2020

More and more people are coming to classes.  I am lucky to have gotten hooked up with the Warren County office of Aging to teach Tai Chi and Qigong.

I get a fair wage for my time, but even better, the local seniors get to participate for close to nothing.  A small weekly donation that they can all afford.

I love it since I get to play, test new movements, practice my skills for my self and share with those who come.

The classes are a fun time,  great people and we all benefit.  It seems that this kind of exercise / fitness and health mindset draws a nice person to it.  Those who are not kind,  personable and generally nice don’t stick with it.

Just this past week,  one of the women in her late 70’s came up after class and told me:

“I don’t care what is going on in my life. When Thursday morning comes, this is where I am.  I have to be, I just love it”.

That seems to be the trend.  There are many in this one group who have been coming over a year now. and it is growing.  They are telling people, and  bringing friends and relatives.

For older seniors to get out of bed on cold and damp winter mornings for a 9 am class says something about how they are benefiting from mindful movement.  As their teacher, I see them all moving better, balancing better, and having increased range of motion with improved coordination and concentration.

Many have said they are working on adding some movements at home as part of their daily lifestyle.  As they learn and remember more,  they do more as it makes them feel better!

One woman in her early 90’s says her back has not felt this good in two years. Hurrah! A true win.

You know if the benefit was not there, they would stop coming, regardless of the low cost of class.  They would not waste their time.

I could give a list of  testimonials but this is not about my or my teaching (well, it is quite a bit), but it is about the commitment these folks have made to their own health.

To say, “come class time, you will know where to find me!”

If you are in NW NJ,  come to try a class.  I have a list of them here: Tai Chi and Qigong classes.
