Weathering the storm of seasonal change
How do you feel on days when it rains?
I myself am a solar person. I thrive on sunshine, feel more energized and ready to take on the world.
When it rains I tend to become more introspective, huddle in and at times overthink.
I have though, learned to enjoy rain. I love the sound of it, the smell of the air afterward and yes, to walk in it as well. From a visual perspective, I enjoy the refractions of light. I find that colors are clearer. Without the glare of sun, objects seem sharper, muted yet vivid.
As I like to say, when others say “it is raining really bad outside”, I say, “it is actually raining quite well”, and with many storms, it could not do a better job of it.
I also apply this to seasonal changes as well. I know, I know, SAD is a real thing, more than just attitude, but I found changing my attitude, or the simply the way I approach the changes made a huge difference in my life.
The practice of Qigong has helped with these connections.
You may want to try some simple breathing exercises to quiet the inner rumbling you feel as the days get shorter, the weather chills and well, you start to feel that change within.
Think of that saying: You can enjoy, the snow, the rain or the heat for what they bring to you, or you can be sad and still have to deal with it.
